Professional Bio
Mary Jane Knight is a keynote speaker, singer-songwriter, and author on a mission to reclaim the human voice in an era of disconnection. In a world more digitally connected and more lonely than ever, she reminds people that the oldest instrument they have is still their most powerful one: their own voice.
A classically trained opera singer with a Master’s in Vocal Performance from the University of Nebraska and a Bachelor’s in Vocal Music Education from Simpson College, Mary Jane has spent more than 25 years helping people from ages 1 to 90 find their voices. She has worked with seasoned performers and with people who spent their whole lives believing their voices weren’t enough. Her work dismantles the myth that only some of us were born to sing.
Through her keynote concert, Reclaiming the Human Voice, and her Vocal Empowerment workshops and retreats, she brings music, story, and the power of the human voice together to create experiences that move people into deeper connection, authentic expression, and the courage to use their own voices. After her retreat at Prairiewoods Spirituality Center, the program coordinator called her “STELLAR,” adding that “retreatants LOVED it and are asking for more.”
Featured in LA Weekly, she is the voice behind the album Rising Free and the author of the poetry collection The Light Between the Lines and the forthcoming book Coming Home to Our Voice.
Her conviction is simple: when we reclaim our voices, we reclaim our dignity, our worthiness, and our right to be heard.
